Jim Reif Builders employees attend seminar to become Certified Aging in Place Specialist
 
FRANCIS CREEK, WIS.- Jim Reif and Tom Arndt of Jim Reif Builders are continuing the process for certification as Certified Aging in Place Specialists (CAPS) by attending the second of three seminars required for the designation.

A Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist has been trained in the unique needs of the older adult population, aging-in-place home modifications, common remodeling projects, and solutions to common barriers. The CAPS program was developed by the NAHB Remodelers of the National Association of Home Builders in collaboration with the NAHB Research Center, NAHB Seniors Housing Council, and AARP to address the growing number of consumers that will soon require these modifications.

The CAPS program teaches the technical, business management, and customer service skills essential to competing in the fastest growing segment of the residential remodeling industry: home modifications for the aging-in-place. The program Reif and Arndt attended was entitled “Business Management for Building Professionals,” which covered best business practices valuable to smaller businesses for management success: planning, organizing, staffing/ directing and controlling.

“By obtaining this certification, we are able to better understand the needs of an aging population, to ensure that we can help them stay in their homes longer. And for most people, we all want to continue living in a familiar environment throughout our maturing years; to live in our home safely, independently and comfortably, regardless of age or ability level,” says Jim Reif.

He adds that common features of an “aging in place” home help increase access and maneuverability and may include everything from the installation of bath and shower grab bars and adjustment of countertop heights to the creation of multifunctional first floor master suites and the installation of private elevators.
